My good friend Kevin (realkev) asked me about the measurements and construction of my harness bar, so he could make one himself. I made some measurements and photo's and thought it would be good to share it with the rest of you, in case you want to make something similiar yourself.
The whole intention for such a bar, is to mount your shoulder belts in a straight angle. A lot of people do it wrong by mounting the belts downwards or to the side or whatever. Mounting your belts wrong is a big risk, as it can compress your spine or pull on your neck in a high-impact collision. See Shroth instructions for this: http://www.schroth.com/installation-i…s/en/index.html
My bar is:
The lenght is 115-116cm
The diameter is 4,3 cm
The thickness of the metal is 0,3 cm
It's basically a scaffolding tube which is very strong. To the bar, are welded thick holding plates of very strong metal I bought at the local hardware shop. My help-guy (very expirienced welder / car repair man) has bent them at the proper angle for me and MiG-gas welded them for me. We did this so the force of pulling, would pull forward, and not down, i.e. not lever on the bolt. So now it's capable of enduring a lot of stress. Painted it black for aesthetic value.
